On December 14, the opening ceremony of the 2025 Shaanxi Provincial Industrial Society Academic Welding Conference was held at Xi'an Jiaotong University. The conference was attended by more than 130 delegates representing four universities - North - Western Polytechnic University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an University of Technology and Xi'an Petroleum University, as well as more than twenty enterprises and -research institutes, including China National Institute of Materials Research for Petroleum Industry, AVIC Qing'an Group Co., Ltd., Aero Engine Corporation of China, Ltd., Xi'an Thermal Power Research Institute Co., Ltd., ODI Electromechanical (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and Xi'an Runjin Yunke Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd.
Before the start of the scientific conference, a working meeting of the Standing Committee of the Welding Department of the Shanxi Provincial Mechanical Engineering Society was convened. Discussions focused on chapter development, smart welding, university-industry collaboration and technological advancement, as well as contributions to the chapter newsletter. Regarding smart welding, the meeting noted that coastal regions are developing at a rapid pace, while Shaanxi Province lags behind in both R&D investment and practical application, lacking sufficient core equipment manufacturing capabilities. It was emphasized that intellectualization is important for industrial modernization and national strategy, with cooperation between universities and enterprises being of particular importance. The following recommendations were made: adopt a demand-driven approach; establish a benchmarking platform through the department to proactively explore the technical problems of enterprises; invite university teachers to targeted cooperation with enterprises.
Specialized presentations at this academic welding conference in Shaanxi Province focused on a variety of advanced and current research areas in the field of welding technology. Content covered key sectors including aerospace, energy equipment (wind power, oil- and gas pipelines), smart manufacturing (additive manufacturing), advanced materials interconnection, non-destructive testing and basic research. These presentations not only demonstrated the key role of welding technology in driving industrial modernization, but also proposed innovative solutions to improve product reliability, efficiency and productivity, generating widespread interest and lively discussion among participants.
As the conference came to a successful conclusion, the hall was filled with loud applause, which was a testament not only to the achievements of the meeting, but also to the industry's sincere anticipation of its future development. Under the Society's leadership and through the combined efforts of all industry colleagues, we are confident that our province's welding sector will achieve new breakthroughs in technological innovation, industrial applications and workforce training, ushering in a new phase of explosive growth.
